Rules and Instructions for 2023 Photo Entries
ADULT PHOTO CONTEST RULES (18+ years of age)

RULES
Nature must be the dominant theme of any entry. Man-made objects such as buildings, boats, roads, etc. should be kept to a minimum. Images may be taken anywhere, but all subjects in the photograph must be present on Amelia Island. You may submit an egret taken at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, but not a lion taken at the Jacksonville Zoo.
FEE
$15 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry up to a maximum of five entries. Payment must accompany image submission.
ADULT CATEGORIES
Adults can register at the Adult Amateur or Adult Professional levels.
Adult Amateur - Entrants are non-professional photographers 18 years old and above who have not been monetarily compensated for their work in exhibits or in any print or digital medium. (This excludes Wild Amelia sponsored products, such as our annual calendar, program, or website.)
Adult Professional - Entrants 18 years old and above who meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Displayed their photography on a website to sell or license their photographs.
- Organized and directed a photographic outing with a group of photography novices.
- Displayed their photography in a solo exhibit or received acclaim in a nationwide photo contest.
- Presented at a photographic workshop.
IMAGE THEMES
All entries should showcase Amelia Island’s natural assets. Subjects may include:
- Birds
- Other Fauna (includes mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, spiders, and more.)
- Flora (Flowers, trees, and plants)
- Landscapes (Images that showcase outdoor beauty)
IMAGE REQUIREMENTS
Only digital submissions will be accepted; no prints will be accepted.
The required format for file names:
YourName_ImageTitle.jpg
Example: JaneDoe_BlueHeronFlying.jpg
Five images is the maximum number allowed for each entrant.
100MB is the maximum upload size. If you upload five images the maximum size of each image would be 20MB.
Do not resize your images for contest submission.
Editing images is allowed, however, since this contest is focused on nature, entries may not be digitally altered beyond normal dust removal/clean-up and minor adjustments to levels, curves, color saturation, and image contrast. All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared.
Image cropping is allowed but cannot exceed more than 20% of the width and/or the height of the original RAW or high-resolution JPG image. If an image has been cropped significantly, the image will be disqualified from judging.
No digital composite images, black-and-white conversions, HDR (High Dynamic Range), or panoramic photos are allowed. Please do not watermark your images. Winning contest entries from prior Wild Amelia Photography Contests may not be resubmitted.
Save your image as a JPG at the highest possible quality setting. If you have any questions regarding JPG quality settings, please contact Contest Coordinator.
REGISTRATION
Registration and payment must be made online.
If problems arise with uploading your digital images, you may email up to five images to the Contest Coordinator.
COPYRIGHT & PHOTO RELEASE
Contest entrants must be the creators of the image and owners of the copyright for every image submitted. Ownership of the images including the copyright and all other rights shall remain with the entering photographer.
By entering the Wild Amelia Photography Contest, you agree to grant Keep Nassau Beautiful irrevocable rights and non-exclusive license to use and reuse your name and images in whole or in part in conjunction with printed material, electronic media, and other composite forms for editorial, promotional, and display use including, but not limited to, the following:
- Inclusion in a Wild Amelia Photo Contest Calendar or merchandise.
- Inclusion in the Wild Amelia and Keep Nassau Beautiful brochures and associated promotional material in both print and electronic media forms as well as future Wild Amelia and Keep Nassau Beautiful advertising efforts.
- Display at Wild Amelia photo exhibitions, which may include the Fort Clinch Visitor Center.
DEADLINE
All entries must be received no later than midnight on April 1, 2023.
JUDGING GUIDELINES
Photographic entries will be judged on the following criteria:
- How well each entry portrays the natural environments and ecosystems of Amelia Island and the surrounding habitats.
- Technical aspects include composition, exposure, and color balance.
- Creativity and overall visual impact.
This will be a blind judging by professional photographers from Northeast Florida.
WINNER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Winning entries will be announced and cash prizes awarded at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Atlantic Recreation Center’s main auditorium in Fernandina Beach. All contest entries will be displayed as a continuous digital slideshow during the day of the Wild Amelia Nature Festival.
