Residents can now bring their used cooking oil to the Convenience Recycle Center located at 46026 Landfill Rd., Callahan, FL 32011 to be recycled as part of their used cooking oil recycling program.
Never put any amount of grease or oil down the drain or toilet. Mixing small amounts of cooking oil and grease or fat with absorbent waste in your trash bin is a safe disposal option. Doing this turns the fatty grease into a piece of solid waste, able to be thrown away like other solid household trash.
Before disposing of used cooking oil, first, ask yourself if it can be reused. For example, pine cones can be dipped in melted grease or oil, coated with seeds, and hung from trees to make a makeshift bird feeder.
If you have more than a cup, dispose of it at a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event. For notification of events, Signup for the Keep Nassau Beautiful newsletter, www.keepnassaubeautiful.org.
