Battery Disposal Guidelines for Nassau County Residents
Improper disposal of batteries can be harmful to both people and the environment. Batteries should never be placed in household trash. Please follow these guidelines to ensure safe and responsible disposal:
Household Batteries:
Small household batteries (such as AA, AAA, and similar) are accepted by many retailers for recycling. Contact your local store to confirm participation in a battery collection program.
Automotive or Vehicle Batteries:
Automotive batteries can often be returned to the retailer where they were purchased or to most automotive parts stores. Always confirm with the store before drop-off.
Nassau County residents may also dispose of automotive batteries at the Callahan Convenience Recycling Center. Please note: This service is free for Nassau County residents. Rental property and foreclosure clean-outs are not accepted.
All Battery Types:
All types of batteries may be disposed of during Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events hosted throughout the year. To receive notifications about upcoming collection events, sign up for the Keep Nassau Beautiful newsletter at: www.keepnassaubeautiful.org
