Gift Wrap, Bags & Cards: Recycle or Reuse?

Gift bags, wrapping paper, and greeting cards are only recyclable if they are 100% paper—free of glitter, foil, metallic finishes, plastic coatings, or rope handles. Items with these non-paper materials should be placed in the garbage, as they can contaminate the recycling stream.

Before tossing them, consider donating gently used gift bags, tissue paper, or blank cards to a local charity or thrift store, where they can be reused by others.

When in doubt, follow the rule: “If you’re not sure, throw it out.” This helps protect the quality of recycled materials and keeps the recycling system working efficiently.
